Late 19th Century Louis XV Style Desk

Elegant Louis XV-style middle desk composed of a harmonious veneered wood structure. Its movement-framed top features a wood border, sublimated by bronze profile molding and shell and scroll spandrels in each corner. The original leather top, with a cold-finish vignette around the edge, shows slight signs of age, giving this piece of furniture a genuine cachet. The front of the bureau d’apparat, which is also curved, opens with three drawers, the inside, sides and back of which are in oak: the central drawer is adorned with a large bronze escutcheon with shell and foliage, while those at the ends are further adorned with a bronze handle. These drawers are fitted with an original working lock and key. The “rear” side is also adorned with the same bronze ornaments, for aesthetic and balance reasons, given that the drawers are dummy. The desk rests on four curved legs, decorated at the top with a large bronze drop, and at the bottom with a bronze shoe. You will be charmed by the pleasant contrast of the wood veneers, enhanced by the splendor and brilliance of the bronze fittings, making this a magnificent piece of furniture.
