New York based artist, Matthew Izzo (b. 1971) currently living in the Hudson Valley NY region. Izzo explores the process of art making through chance and random occurrences. Using a direct approach to his medium such as gestures and movement he creates exuberantly colorful abstract paintings. Drawing his inspiration from landscapes of the Hudson Valley as well as his travels.
Using oil and acrylic paints bold brush strokes and patterns.
Izzo has been exhibiting his paintings in Galleries for 30+ years.

Dated 1894 and signed “S. La Dure”, this original oil on canvas is very well-executed. The subject is a still-life painted in the Old-World style of the Dutch masters. With a somber background, this painting presents a traditional, interior table-setting with a bird, some flowers, and a grouping of fruit which includes apricots in the foreground and grapes in the background. The use of light and shadow as well as the realism of this painting are reminiscent of the Dutch masters. Painting is in very good condition. The frame appears to be original and shows normal signs of age; there are chips in the gold.

Original signed oil painting by mid century painter Ed LaVelle. This landscape is titled, “October Days” and appears to be in the original frame. Stamped on the back is the name of LaVelle’s studio. LaVelle was a prolific landscape artist who exhibited in leading galleries and received numerous awards in national competitions. Two of his works were in President Ronald Reagan’s private collection! The painting itself measures approximately 9”x7”

Dali attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.He devoured philosophical works and Freud, and he discovered Cubism, Futurism and Metaphysical Arts in magazines.He had one-man shows in Barcelona in 1925 and in Madrid in 1926.He harmonized the example of Gris, de Chirico and Carra with the refined methods of the Old Masters.Sometime during 1928 Dali made a brief excursion to Paris, where he met Picasso.Andre Breton, Surrealism’s central figure, appointed him an official Surrealist.Within a short time Dali was to become the movement’s most spectacular exponent.In his art he has succeeded in achieving the synthesis of what Andre Breton called a retrograde craft with the most extreme inventions of modern culture.His graphic oeuvre comprises etchings and lithographs, which have evolved parallel to his paintings.
Dali illustrated Dante’s Divine Comedy with 101 wood engravings.The poem recounts the tale of the poet’s journey through Hell and Purgatory guided by Virgil.After repenting his faults, he is joined by Beatrice for the final leg of the journey through Paradise to receive a glimpse of God.Dali often equated Gala, his wife and inspiration, with Dante’s Beatrice.Like Dali, Dante’s symbolism is complex but highly rational.Both men had a keen knowledge of scientific studies in geology, optics and mathematics.Dali’s Divine Comedy will go down in the history of art as a work of the artist’s prime years, the early 1950’s.

This is a 1945 French couture fashion print that dates to 1945. It originally appeared in a French fashion magazine that catered to the most stylish women in Paris. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. It was illustrated by Pierre Mourgue (1890-1969)who was a well acclaimed fashion illustrator who portrayed a sense of demure elegance and subtlety in his works. He worked for the influential Gazette du Bon Ton in the 1920s and later for French Vogue, Le Femme Chic and Femina magazines. He illustrated numerous front covers to these magazines and worked with Dior, Balmain, Balenciaga, Givenchy and the leading department stores in Paris. This design is by the iconic Balenciaga. It exudes a wonderful sense of elegance and flair with its tiered bouffant style evening dress cinched at the waist with a slender bodice and a long dramatic ribbon knotted tie. Note the painterly illustration done in soft rich neutral and champagne tones. Perfect for today’s fashionista or vintage fashion collector. This is a RARE image in excellent condition measuring 8.25 x 11 inches. comes matted in a white 16 x 20 custom mat that works with a standards size frame.

Early 20th-Century French bronze sparrow bird after sculptor Paul Comolera (1818-1897). Signed verso by the foundry. This lovely antique is simply wonderful to hold. Comolera, a well known animal sculptor, was a pupil of Francois Rude and taught Jules Moigniez. This collectible figurine is superb placed upon a book and is also a wonderful paperweight and impressive desk accessory. Book not included.
