Otto Wytrlik was a student of Otto Wagner and is one of the big names of the Vienna Art Nouveau. The original version was carried out by his father’s art clasp – Josef Wytrlik – only 50 times. Other copies, which also include this piece, were used by other artificial furniture lines such as. Sigmund Oppenheim or August Ungethüm.
The ancient piece is well documented literarily and occupied 1st place in a competition, which was advertised by Portois & Fix: “Design for a simple dining room”. In 1902 the room was shown at the exhibition for decorative art in Turin and awarded a gold medal. 50 of this dining room, manufactured by Josef Wytrlik, were sold by the Portois & Fix company after 1902.
