Very refined and strong design attributed to the prestigious designer John Herbert for the leading company A. Younger. John Herbert was a British designer who was active in the 50s and 60s, and was known for his dressers in Scandinavian style and high -quality exclusive furniture series for the British furniture manufacturer A. Younger. It is speculated that Herbert was head of design somewhere in the early or mid -fifties for A. Younger Ltd. The groundbreaking company – which produced high -quality modernist furniture – was one of the first to implement the Scandinavian style in its collection, that happened in the 1950s. They were also one of the first manufacturers to let this style look for something in real British style. Already in 1955 Younger produced his first teak dining area, Moselle series. Two years later, the Volany (1957) teak collection was introduced, which remained in production for more than ten years. Prize -winning designs. In 1960, Herbert’s designs won three prizes from the Furniture Makers’ Guild, for an (unnamed) sideboard and two dining tables, all of which showed a clear Scandinavian aesthetics. The aforementioned sideboard was made of solid Afromosia, a tropical African wood that was easier to work than the more traditional teak species that formed the veneer of the sideboard. The first of the two tables combined veneer of teak and rosewood, a mixture that would turn out to be very popular later in the 1960s, while the other – presumably from the Fonseca collection (1959) – was made of Afromosia for the Sideboard to fit. This set of 6 chairs fits fanastically with the aforementioned prize -winning furniture and also within a contemporary mid -century modern interior, they are rare designer seats that you won’t encounter much on the European mainland. Small series. The designs by John Herbert for A. Younger were consistently made in very small productions and are of high -quality, expensive wood that was attractive for the most demanding customers. Whether you have a modern, vintage or Japandi interior, these seats feel at home in a range of living styles. In short, a real unique set of 6 chairs in beautiful restored neat condition with original patina. Fabric: Keymer New Harmony Color 62 Land of origin: England Brand: A.
